I have been asked by several people lately what they can do to help in our community. Right now the school is looking for projects the students can do. Projects are easy to find and plentiful. If anyone has a project available, please let us know. What would really help our community would be for our citizens to get involved. Join the Kiwanis, Women's Club, Historic Preservation Committee and Chamber of Commerce or start a Jaycee chapter. Most of these organizations need new members...

Some of our capital improvement tax money was used to purchase two pieces of property that had 13 substandard mobile homes. Eight of these homes have been removed, and the other five will be gone soon. Once final cleanup is complete, we will either sell the properties or we may put playground equipment at one, possibly both locations.

We intend to continue to try to improve our town.

Tim Porch is the mayor of Scott City.
