The Best Years (TBY), along with The Chateau Girardeau, will present an Active Living Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Isle Casino in Cape Girardeau. Admission is free and open to the public.
The lifestyle, health and active aging expo will be a fun, informative and engaging day designed for baby boomers, seniors, caregivers, friends and family, according to a news release.
"It's really a terrific opportunity for the seniors in our community to come together and experience all that retirement has to offer," says Jon K. Rust, publisher of the Southeast Missourian and co-president of Rust Communications. "This is really what The Best Years publication is all about. It's about showing senior residents in our region that there are a lot of exciting things for them to embrace during their retirement."
Guests of the expo will have an opportunity to shop vendors, interact with other seniors and attend sessions to learn new skills. Some of the workshops include learning to fly-fish with the Missouri Department of Conservation; Facebook and social media from the rustmedia marketing agency; learning financial strategies for investing; participating in fitness and strength-training demonstrations; and more. Representatives also will be available in the areas of travel, dental care, audiology, pharmacies, disability services and home decor, to name a few.
The Jerry Ford Combo band will be at the event, as well as other entertainment, and a dance floor will be available.
"To have The Chateau Girardeau as our presenting sponsor is wonderful," Rust says. "They truly understand the value of embracing new opportunities in retirement."
Guests also may participate in health screenings, free samples and the chance to win door prizes. For more information or to rent a booth, call Donna Denson at (573) 388-2751.
