An organ recital and open house are held at Grace Methodist Church; Paul S. Pettings, professor of music at the University of Illinois School of Music in Urbana, is the organist for the afternoon program.

About 140 adults, representing 18 of the 19 Cub Scout packs in the Shawnee District, attend the Pow-Wow held in Cape Girardeau; the meeting covers planning of the Cub Scout program.

1937

With about 2,000 in attendance, the 62nd annual Missouri State Teachers Association meeting gets underway at Teachers College; presiding at the meeting is Cape Girardeau's own Alma Schrader, the only woman president of the association in its history; Belmont Farley, director of publicity of the National Education Association of Washington, D.C., and former principal of Central High School, is among guest speakers.

Word is received that Senate leader Alben Barkley of Kentucky, right-hand man of President Roosevelt, will come to Cape Girardeau for the seven-state rally of Young Democratic Clubs on Saturday.

1912

A full county ticket is filed by the Socialist Party, this being the last day of filing; among the hopefuls on the ticket are Clay Brincefield of Deray for representative; John W. Hoffman of Cape Girardeau for judge of the Court of Common Pleas; H.G. Hopper of Cape Girardeau for sheriff; and Dr. George W. Tarlton of Cape Girardeau for coroner.

The L.J. Albert Jr. residence on Lorimier Street is sold at trustee's sale to H.H. Haas for $3,500; Haas has lived in the property for nearly four years.
