BENTON, Mo. -- Three children are killed and more than a dozen injured at 7:45 a.m. when their school bus is struck from behind by tractor-trailer in dense fog two miles south of Benton on U.S. 61.

Approximately 2,500 people streamed through Cape Girardeau's new city hall yesterday to admire its new facilities and to enjoy the 30th Missourian Art Exhibition, displayed in gymnasium.

50 years ago: Nov. 13, 1953

Nine out of 10 families in Cape Girardeau will be eating turkey on Thanksgiving, 13 days from now, grocers predict as orders for birds begin pouring in at meat counters.

The eight-room frame farmhouse of Albert Schwartz on old Ancell-Chaffee Road is destroyed by a fire early in the morning; nothing is saved but few baby clothes; the farm is about a mile west of Ancell.

75 years ago: Nov. 13, 1928

Forms are being placed on Maud Avenue and College Street preparatory to paving; the Maud project is being prepared to receive curbing and gutters, and paving of the street probably will follow within next few days, depending on weather.

A campaign to sell $10,000 in stock to secure establishment in Cape Girardeau of the garment factory of G.L. Heyman Mfg. Co., is completed, with 100 shares of stock subscribed.
