For the 29th year, Hutson Furniture Co., 43 S. Main St., unveils its annual Christmas window; this year's window features the town of Silverton, Colorado, as it might have looked in the early 1900s; Charles Hutson says he got the idea for the window from vacationing in the Rocky Mountains.

The County Court begins a discussion of realigning voting precincts under the county registration law approved by county voters at the Nov. 3 general election; while no definite action is taken, the court discusses adding two precincts to Byrd Township, combining Hubble Township's five precincts into two, and combining the three precincts in Welch Township into one.

Monsignor Leo P. Kampmann, pastor of St. Mary's Cathedral, is in Ireland, the first stop on a European tour; he and his two priest companions will be in Rome on Dec. 16, when the Rev. Harry Schlitt of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish is ordained to the priesthood at St. Peter's Basilica.

1939

Business suspends for the observance of the Thanksgiving holiday; union church services are held in the morning at Grace Methodist Church, with Dr. A. Abel, pastor of Christian Church, delivering a sermon on "Thankful Nevertheless."

The Central High School Tigers run and pass their way to a 53-0 victory over the Jackson High School Indians in their Turkey Day classic at Houck Field Stadium; it is the largest score ever made by either team since the two schools started athletic relations back in 1912.

1914

William Stein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Stein of Cape Girardeau, arrives here after an absence of eight years, which he spent in Uncle Sam's Navy; Stein had most recently been on the battleship Cincinnati, holding down the office of quartermaster.

The Sturdivant Bank has just installed a wonderful new machine; it is known as the Ledger Posting Machine, and posts individual ledgers mechanically; it assures accuracy, neatness, legibility, speed and economy, supplanting the unreliable human mind in work that has to be absolutely correct in every detail.
