Judith Ann Crow, The Missourian's librarian, reviewer, critic and all-around reporter on the arts, was honored Friday at the annual Southeast Missouri State University College of Humanities honors luncheon yesterday; Dr. Jack L. Hensley, professor of speech, called Crow "the worthy daughter of a remarkable mother."

DEXTER, Mo. -- Stoddard County authorities believe the motive was robbery in the death of a prominent Dexter businessman, Jack D. Estes, 49, who was found dead at his home last night.

50 years ago: Feb. 23, 1955

The school board of the Jackson School District calls for a special election on March 10, for the purpose of voting on a $400,000 school bond issue; the money would be used to provide additional classroom space in Jackson to correct the overcrowded conditions in schools, and to approve facilities at Pocahontas, Burfordville and Fruitland.

Dennis Herrman, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Herrman of Cape Girardeau, fractures both wrists when he slips and falls while running in the gymnasium at Central High School.

75 years ago: Feb. 23, 1930

Preparations are being completed for the Lincoln McConnell evangelistic campaign to be conducted at Centenary Methodist Church during the first two weeks of March; efforts are being made by the leaders of the cooperating churches to prepare the community for the campaign.

Grace Methodist Church is endeavoring to give Cape Girardeau more facilities for promotion of religious education through its $50,000 campaign for construction of a new church and Sunday school plant; the congregation has outgrown its building on Sprigg Street and is seeking a new location.

100 years ago: Feb. 23, 1905

John L. Miller, the saloon man, has had L.B. Blackwood, the architect, make plans for a handsome, 14-room residence to be built at the corner of Merriwether and Spanish streets; it will be built of brick and stone and will be one of the finest homes in the city.

Mrs. William Haupt, wife of the Jefferson School principal, goes to Egypt Mills to visit her husband's family.
