The St. Andrew Lutheran Church Board of Directors has approved a bid for the construction of an activity building east of the existing church structures at 804 N. Cape Rock Drive; the free-standing building will house a gym, classrooms, game room, snack room and other facilities.

Members of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association, meeting at State College, hear Dr. Benjamin Willis, superintendent of schools at Chicago, discuss the welfare of all children.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Nebraska Wesleyan of Lincoln overcomes an 11-point second-half deficit to move into a regular game deadlock 56-56, then goes ahead in a five-minute overtime period to down the Cape State College Indians 72-61 in the opening game of the NCAA Small College Basketball Tournament here.

75 years ago: March 15, 1937

The first shipment of equipment for use in the construction of the arena at the new fairgrounds west of Cape Girardeau arrives by rail; it is mainly electrical equipment; no work order has yet been given for the project.

The final 135 flood refugees at Cape Girardeau return to their homes in Mississippi County; in late July, the colony here numbered 610 people, but the average number of refugees housed in Cape Girardeau was around 400.

100 years ago: March 15, 1912

William Bleckwendt, a resident of the Third Ward, has filed his petition for councilman and will endeavor to unseat Joseph Haas; Bleckwendt served two terms on the council from the Second Ward a number of years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Reppy of Hillsboro, Mo., arrive on the noon train to attend the oratorical contest at the Normal School, at which their son, Allison, will compete; Mr. and Mrs. Reppy are publishers of the Hillsboro New Era newspaper.
