Colonial Cape Girardeau Foundation announced plans Friday for $7-8 million project to convert 150-year-old former St. Vincent's Seminary into national and historic museum and civil war interpretive center.

Caruthersville - Hard-hitting tornado roared into southeastern tip of Missouri last night, leaving at least 13 dead and 66 injured amid scene of massive destruction; highway patrolmen, Pemiscot County deputies and Red Cross workers are searching wreckage of 50 houses and nearby cotton fields for other possible victims.

City council, acting at end of routine business session yesterday, adopted suggestion by Mayor Walter H. Ford that immediate check be made to see if it is possible to build two swimming pools for community and pay for them from receipts of pools themselves.

75 years ago: March 22, 1927

Bids for construction of new $500,000 hotel building at Broadway and Fountain street are opened in office of Hotel Securities Co., at St. Louis; bids next must be submitted to financing company and, if they meet its approval, contract will be awarded in short time.

Continuing its rapid rise, Mississippi River reaches stage of 32.5 feet; river watchers say stream should crest Thursday or Friday around 34 feet; this indicates flood won't reach dangerous proportions that it was first believed it might reach.
