The Golden Eagles Marching Band at Southeast Missouri State University is getting new "plumage"; the regents have authorized $60,573.16 for the purchase of new band uniforms.
Site preparation is nearing completion and construction will begin soon on two major west side projects, the Cape Girardeau Hampton Inn and a Perkins Restaurant; both will occupy an area to the north and west of the Holiday Inn near the intersection of Interstate 55 and Route K.

Pinned beneath an inverted airplane when it crashed in a muddy wheat field near Malden, Mo., late yesterday, two Sikeston, Mo., men were seriously injured; they are Leonard McMullin, 43, former Scott County judge, a farmer and veteran airplane pilot, and Granville J. Phillips, 38, chief maintenance engineer for the State Highway Department in Division 10.
City Commissioner Frank Batchelor is in favor of beautifying Fairground Park; with $55,000 in the city coffers, Bachelor believes "everything will come out all right, and we have no fear of running deeply into debt" paying for the planting of shrubs and flowers.
The Cape Girardeau City Council last night decided to aid in building the bridge over Sloan's Creek for the benefit of those living north of the city; the expense will be borne by the city, the county and the taxpayers of the vicinity.
Two elders of the Church of Latter-day Saints are in Cape Girardeau, resting up a few days; they have been holding meetings down through Scott County and the southern part of Cape Girardeau County.
