The new Cape Girardeau Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall was dedicated yesterday afternoon; the hall, 605 Northview Drive, was constructed last summer by volunteer workers.

An 11,500-square-foot building is on the drawing board for Vernon E. Rhodes, a Cape Girardeau businessman; the structure will be built on North Kingshighway, with Metro Business College occupying about 7,500 square feet.

50 years ago: March 29, 1962

Leo L. Schade, owner and publisher, announces the sale of the weekly Cape County Post; the Jackson newspaper is being purchased by John W. Hoffman of Kansas City, Mo., who plans to take charge this weekend; Schade has been in the newspaper business 21 years.

Police chief Percy R. Little announces three promotions within the department; new sergeants are Shannon W. Kelley, Bill J. Adams and Cecil Propst.

75 years ago: March 29, 1937

Swinging into the new year, the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce selects officers and discusses plans for the future; H.B. Newman, vice president and general manager of the Missouri Utilities Co., is elected president of the group, succeeding H.E. Kerr.

Breaking out of the county jail at Marble Hill, Mo., on Saturday night, three prisoners, two of them described as former convicts, are back in the same jail today; they were captured at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at Whitewater.

100 years ago: March 29, 1912

A lawsuit was brought in circuit court yesterday by the United States, seeking to restrain Louis Houck, his wife, Mary, and the Cape Girardeau and Thebes Bridge Terminal Railroad from interfering with the work being done by the government on the Mississippi River levee from Cape Girardeau to the Thebes, Ill., bridge.

The river at Cape Girardeau is at 31 feet, the highest reading this month; forecasters are predicting the river will reach 34 feet in the next three days.
