Centenary United Methodist Church hosts a "Witness With a Vision" celebration in the afternoon; the event is sponsored by Cape Girardeau-Farmington District of the United Methodist Church; the event includes a Hands on Mission period, with talks and displays on mission projects, and a worship service.

Several major U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in the Cape Girardeau area are reviewed by Col. James Corbin of the St. Louis Corps District during an annual high-water inspection of the Mississippi River by the Mississippi River Commission.

Nearly 1,000 Rotarians and their Anns are expected to attend the two-day District 609 club conference here tomorrow and Saturday; the conference is the climax of the Rotary year in Southeast Missouri and includes sessions for both the men and women, as well as lunches and banquets.

Worship services in the evening at First Baptist Church feature a baptismal service in which more than 50 new members are welcomed into the church; 70 members were received during the pre-Easter revival meeting.

Dr. Clifford Stanley, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, delivers a sermon at the morning worship service; he addressed a conference of 60 clergymen at Queen's College at Kingston, Ontario., last week, speaking on "The Christian View of Community."

1914

The rich dirt that had been used for a flower garden on the vacant lot east of The Republican office is being hauled to a lot between Drusch's store and a garage on upper Broadway, where some ladies of that neighborhood are making a beauty spot; a company of young men has purchased the lot and will build a picture show theater there.

Mechanics are hard at work remodeling the Houck building at the corner of Main and Independence streets, so long occupied by W.H. Bohnsack Jr.'s store; it is being made into a Woolworth 5- and 10-cent store.
