The Jackson Chamber of Commerce last night voted to join with the Cape Girardeau Chamber in efforts to have Highway 61 widened to four lanes between the two cities.

Playing for city baseball pride, Cape Girardeau Central High School nips crosstown rival Notre Dame 4-3 at Capaha Park to not only take the Southeast Missouri Baseball Conference title, but the mythical City Championship as well; both teams had won one game each when they played earlier in the season.

1938

When the members of the Ladies' Aid of the General Baptist Church on Lower Broadway said they would furnish the paint for the outside of the church, the men of the church agreed to do the work; so the old edifice will be painted white, the first decoration it has had for about 11 years.

The Cape Cut Rate Store, 729 Broadway, will begin moving Monday night to its new location at 701 Broadway, says Max Blitstein, manager; the building formerly was occupied by the S. & L. Credit Store, which has moved to the Hecht Building on Main Street.

1913

The second day of the big Elks convention outdoes the first in every respect; the feature of the day is the big Elks parade, which starts at the Elks lodge house on Themis Street and winds down Spanish Street to Independence Street, up to Main Street and out Broadway for a whirl about the town and back to the starting point.

Mrs. L.F. Klostermann has purchased a new Hudson-six from Fred Groves; Groves and Louis Juden, Klostermann's nephew, went to St. Louis Monday and drove back in the new car.
