Cape Girardeau County assistant prosecuting Attorney Kenny Hulshof has accepted a new job as an assistant attorney general for the state of Missouri; he will serve as one of two attorneys in a special prosecution unit that will handle high-profile cases.

The Federal Election Commission has ruled that former Democratic Congressional candidate Wayne Cryts, the American Family Farm Foundation and the American Agriculture movement didn't violate federal election laws; the FEC accepted the report of its general counsel and closed the case.

The doctors' division of the Southeast Missouri Hospital fundraising campaign has become the first to reach its goal; the division has solicited $90,000, its exact quota; the drive toward to total target of $450,000 has reached $329,678.90.

On the 20th anniversary of the day when they went ashore at Normandy, nine of the Cape Girardeau and Jackson men who made the D-Day landing gather at the war memorial in Capaha Park: Gilbert Sewing, Russell Smith, Howard Conrad, Lloyd McNeely, Charles Kaempfe, Dale Smith, Utah Austin, Max Stovall and Lynn Illers.

SIKESTON, Mo. -- By a majority of nearly 6 to 1, Sikeston voters in a special election defeat a proposal to legalize sale of intoxicating liquor by the drink; the vote is extremely light.

Enrollment at the Teachers College for the summer term reaches 1,286 students; the great number of students has made the library quarters in Academic Hall too small for studying; to accommodate the students, tables and chairs have been provided under the trees northeast of Academic; during the mornings, anywhere from 100 to 200 students can be seen studying in this "fresh air" library.

Caruthersville, Missouri, has been awarded the next meeting of the Southeast Missouri Drummers' Association; Campbell, Missouri -- a dry village -- attempted to land the convention for 1915, but there was absolutely no support from the great majority of the traveling men when that name was mentioned.

In the severe windstorm last night, the boats used by the Morrison Ice and Fuel Co. for pumping sand from the river were filled with water, causing them to sink.
