Almost like clockwork, the latest in a series of afternoon thunderstorms this past week rumbled through Cape Girardeau yesterday with heavy rain that inundated several streets, intense lightning and deafening thunder claps; there were unconfirmed reports of funnel clouds near Fruitland and Oak Ridge.

With his wife, Jane, at his side holding the Bible and his three sons standing beside him, Stanley A. Grimm takes the oath of office as a member of the Missouri Court of Appeals; administering the oath at Common Pleas Courthouse is Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice William Billings.

Little interest is shown at the polls in Scott City, as only 458 voters elect Nevan A. Fisher mayor to fill the unexpired term of the late mayor Philip Uhrhan, who passed away July 2 while at work for the street department.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Davis of Cape Girardeau plan to leave here Friday for Dillingham, Alaska, where Mr. Davis is superintendent of schools; his wife, Thalah, will teach in the third grade the coming year.

Curtis L. Childs, 58, dean of the police force in Cape Girardeau, tomorrow will round out 20 years of continuous service with the department; he holds the record for continuous police duty here.

Workers pour concrete for a drive at the east side of Lorimier School, and next to the S.D. MacFarland residence; the drive leads to that property and to the rear of the new school, connecting with Independence Street at Fountain Street.

Professor Henry B. Roney, for nearly a quarter-century head of Roney's Boys' Concert Company, has heard of the bands and orchestras of Cape Girardeau and has written the school superintendent asking if there is a boy of special merit as a musician or as a singer who would like to join his organization.

The Maurer Bros. have dissolved the partnership in their blacksmith shop on Good Hope Street, Albert F. Maurer having bought out the interest of his brother, Robert H. Maurer.
