An extensive tree-planting and management plan for Cape County Park, prepared by the Missouri Department of Conservation's Forestry Division, is under consideration by the County Commission; the plan proposes planting some 923 trees and 1,000 square feet of ground-cover plants.

A team of state auditors is reviewing records of the Cape Girardeau County Circuit Court this week in its first audit of the court since the state took over court jurisdiction in 1982.

50 years ago: Aug. 14, 1960

"Sin in the First Person" is the topic of a sermon presented in the morning in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. James H. Brown; he delivers the sermon in the absence of the pastor, the Rev. C.E. Mount, who is attending a Bible conference in North Carolina.

Cub Pack 16 of St. Vincent's Parish holds an all-day council meeting at Capaha Park; the event, termed Akelea's Council, named for an Indian chief, consists of games and other activities, with the youngsters in full Indian regalia.

75 years ago: Aug. 14, 1935

Additional rainfall in Cape Girardeau and the district last night brought further relief from a threatened drought and boosted crop prospects considerably; the city has received 1.56 inches of rain in the past two days.

The Ideal Shoe Shop, operated by Adolph Jarosik, the Day Transfer Co., and the St. Mary's Truck terminal have moved from 1025 Broadway to 133 N. Sprigg St., the location recently vacated by Rust and Martin, furniture upholstery firm; the latter has moved to a Broadway location.

100 years ago: Aug. 14, 1910

Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Hinchey, accompanied by their nephew, Yancey Hinchey, go to Sikeston, Mo., to visit Mrs. Hinchey's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Baker, and to join a fishing party Monday on Little River.

A number of young folks of Cape Girardeau attend an excellent dinner at the hospitable home of A.J. McGhee, a prosperous farmer living a few miles from Jackson; the occasion is a farewell dinner honoring Hubert McGhee, a former Normal School student who will teach in Mace, Idaho.
