JEFFERSON CITY -- Two new members of the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents were confirmed by the Missouri Senate yesterday afternoon, after winning approval from the gubernatorial appointments committee earlier in the day; approved to six-year terms on the board were Don Dickerson of Cape Girardeau and Patricia Washington, a native of Cape Girardeau who is editor of the St. Louis American newspaper.

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Dan and Connie Sitze, owners and publishers of The Bloomfield Vindicator, have announced the newspaper has been sold to Gary Rust of Cape Girardeau; Barbara Hill of Dexter, Missouri, has been named publisher.

Whether it be on the street, at the corner diner or in a brief company coffee break, the main topic of conversation in Cape Girardeau is President Lyndon B. Johnson's announcement he won't run again for the office.

Most of the Cape Girardeau Police Department threaten mass resignation, if the city doesn't increase pay for each officer by $150 per month and pay for their medical insurance; the ultimatum, signed by 31 police department employees, is presented to city officials in the morning.

In spite of war conditions, City Commissioner Frank Batchelor announces a half mile, or about five blocks, of North Main Street will be constructed this year; Main, from Roberts Street in the Red Star suburb, will be extended to connect with Cape Rock Drive.

Prying the lid off the spring swimming season, a group of boys took a semi-public dip in Sloan's Creek in the north part of Cape Girardeau late yesterday, bringing down the wrath of some and an investigation by police; it was felt the youths were rushing the season a bit; it was reported the garb of the boys, if any, was "deeply rationed."

1918

Ten young men are sent to Camp Funston, Kansas, from this county, departing Jackson on the Missouri Pacific Railroad; leaving are Alfred L. Schrader, Edward Wilhite, Clyde H. Brumbach, Joseph A. Meyer, Guy E. Anderson, Elmer J. Propst, Cephas E. Estes, Alvin Kiehne, Ollie W. Jacobs and George W. Brucher; it isn't the novelty it formerly was to see a squad of men go away to military training.

Articles of agreement for incorporation of the Southeast Missouri Mortgage Co. of Cape Girardeau have been filed with the county recorder in Jackson; incorporators are H.L. Albert, D'Nean Stafford, C.G. Wilson and Russell Dearmont, who own all the stock, which is given at $10,000.
