A dramatic drop in December boardings at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport was nearly enough to drop enplanements below 10,000 for the year, but despite inclement weather in late December, the airport managed to show 10,016 for the year. That's enough for the port to maintain its primary airport designation and receive $300,000 in annual federal entitlement money.

Julia Cowsert filed yesterday for a seat on the Cape Girardeau Board of Education, making her the third person to file since the filing period opened Wednesday.

1966

The second Republican to file for county office in the 1966 election is Herbert F. Brune of Daisy, who is seeking the nomination for District 1 county judge. Brune is the tenth person to file for office; eight of the 10 are incumbent Democrats.

In a second policy change designed to rebuff questions by reporters, Cape Girardeau Police Chief Irvin E. Beard said in the future, arrest numbers no longer will be included on the department's "daily news release." This "release" is essentially the police news the chief chooses to make public.

1941

A large crowd greets Bishop Ivan Lee Holt at Centenary Methodist Church at a morning homecoming service. The main floor of the church and more than half the balcony are filled to hear the church's former pastor speak. In the afternoon, Bishop and Mrs. Holt are honored at an informal reception at the Education Building.

Falling down the steps at the entrance to the Methodist Church in Commerce, Missouri, Mrs. Rollin Mabrey, 65, fractures her left arm between her wrist and elbow. She is brought to Saint Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment.

1916

Among other items of business Tuesday, the Cape Girardeau County Court granted dramshop licenses to J.F. Williams at Dutchtown, John Herbst and Claud Speak at Cape Girardeau and August W. Kuellmer at Jackson.

George F. Davidson, who until recently traveled for a large hardware concern, in the future will be connected with the Fred A. Groves company as a Ford salesman. The company delivered two cars yesterday, one going to Judge G.J. Keller and the other to A.P. Williams at Jackson.
