Members of the State Park Board tour Trail of Tears State Park after a meeting and dinner with the Cape County Park Board, the County Court and other citizens last night; the board hopes to be ready to take bids for construction of a $30,000 blacktop park road in the next 10 days.

Kermit Meystedt, the 6-6 junior of State College who was named to the MIAA All-Conference team, led the Indians in every department in statistics in the recently completed cage season; Meystedt led the team in points scored, 486 for a 22.1 average; he had 362 rebounds for the season, an average of 16.5 in 22 games played.

1941

True D. Morse, chief of the appraisal, commercial and industrial department of the Doane Agricultural Service of St. Louis, is speaker at the annual dinner meeting of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce at the Hotel Marquette; his topic is "War Time Policies for Farmers and Businessmen."

During a city council meeting Monday, C. Andy Juden, who proposes to build a brick-and-tile structure on Spanish Street, south of Themis Street, to house the National Youth Administration offices and work classes, discussed the project; Juden said he would like to have the city and Missouri Inspection Bureau waive the requirement for a sprinkler or fire-prevention system in the building, stating it would conform to regulations otherwise, and it would be fireproof.

1916

The Daily Republican newspaper issues a City Beautiful Supplement; the four-page section is printed on fine paper, with photographs of local beauty spots, parks, etc.; some of the pictures are in color.

Cape Girardeau's Salvation Army conducts its first open-air meeting on Main Street; Adj. Carl is here from St. Louis to assist the two women in getting things started; an effort is being made to get the vacant store room on Independence Street, facing Main Street, for a barracks.
