Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Schmidt of Cape Girardeau celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary with a dinner Aug. 22, 2010, at the Old Brick House in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

Hosts were their children.

Schmidt and Doris Saupe were married Aug. 25, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown.

The couple has three children, Jeannie (Scott) Smithson of Town and Country, Mo., Brad Schmidt of Frohna, Mo., and fiancee Editha Carlton of Marble Hill, Mo., and Bob (Cheryl) Schmidt of Wildwood, Mo. They have four grandchildren, Scotty Jr., Katie, Shane, and Melinda (Matt) Kramer of St. Louis.
