The 14-team, Class 2A, District 1 track meet will be held today at the Abe Stuber Track and Field Complex in Cape Girardeau.
Field events will get underway at 11 a.m., with the sprint preliminaries to start at 11:30.
The teams in the district include Brentwood, Cardinal Ritter, Caruthersville, Chaffee, Crystal City, East Prairie, Grandview, Kelly, Lutheran North, Malden, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Metro, Portageville and Scott City.
With the top four athletes moving on in every event, Chaffee coach Terry Glenzy said Chaffee's Andy Obermann has a good chance at taking first in the shot put, while Kelly's distance and middle distance runners Nathen King and Luke Choate could take first in their events.
Kelly's boys and girls won the meet last year, "but this is a completely different district this year," Glenzy said. "This is the first time we've gone against St. Louis schools in a district."
