Advance junior Addison Carlton had a year in sports that only a student-athlete her age dreams about. She not only helped her Advance Hornet’s volleyball team win its third Class 1 State Championship in four years but also made the Class 1 All-State team.
On June 9, Carlton received more outstanding recognition as she was voted the Stoddard County Athletic Association softball player of the year, her second honor in as many years.
“When I found out, I was just floored,” Carlton said. “I enjoy playing softball and volleyball so much and play both sports year around so it shows if you put the work in you can achieve any goal you set for yourself.”
Carlton was not only one of the premier pitchers in all of Southeast Missouri, but she also contributed on the offensive side as well. She ended the season with a .569 batting average, recording 37 hits in 21 games as well as scoring 20 runs and drove in 31 runners.
In the circle is where the multi-sport star boasted her most impressive numbers, striking out 121 batters in 77 innings pitched. Carlton only allowed 50 hits in those 70 innings and allowed a measly 28 runs.
Joining Carlton on the SCAA All-Conference team from Advance were catcher Kaylee Cline, first baseman Natalee Roper and infield Brogan Wright-Hawkins.
The Hornets finished their season with a 15-6 record, defeating Oran to win the district crown but came up short against Valle Catholic in the Class 1 state tournament.
Not taking any time off this summer, you can Carlton playing both travel softball for the Semo Rampage as well as honing her skills on the volleyball court at Advance High School.
