Park Hills will attempt to defend its title when the SEMO Volleyball Classic is held today and Saturday on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.

The 11th edition of the annual event will feature 30 high school volleyball teams, most of them from the Southeast Missouri area.

Park Hills defeated Borgia 15-10, 15-13 in last year's title contest. Bernie had captured the previous four championships.

Matches will be played at Houck Field House, Parker Gym and the Student Recreation Center.

There will be six pools of five teams, with pool play beginning at 5 p.m. today and again at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Sixteen teams will advance from pool play into the playoff bracket, with first-round matches set for 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at Houck and the Rec Center.

The quarterfinals will be played at 4 p.m. at both Houck and the Rec Center, with the semifinals set for 5 p.m. at the Rec Center. The championship match will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Rec Center.

Pool A: Bloomfield, Malden, Leopold, St. Vincent, Lesterville.

Pool B: Oran, Zalma, Jackson, New Madrid, Park Hills.

Pool C: Chaffee, Poplar Bluff I, Oak Ridge, Advance, Farmington.

Pool D: Cape Central, Bernie, Perryville, Woodland, South Iron.

Pool E: Scott City, Puxico, Rosati Kain, Sikeston, Meadow Heights.

Pool F: Notre Dame, Gideon, Clearwater, Bell City, Poplar Bluff II.
