Scott County Legion wins district game

The Scott County American Legion baseball team split a pair of one-run games at Dunklin County on Saturday.

Scott County won the District 14 opener 5-4 and lost the non-district nightcap 2-1. Scott County is 10-5 overall and 2-1 in district play.

Chase Seyer pitched 5 1/3 innings for the first-game victory. He allowed four runs, three earned, and six hits. Steve Dooley worked 1 2/3 hitless innings for the save.

Scott County had 10 hits, led by Rusty Hendricks and Trenton Moses with two apiece. Rynn Eskew homered.

Chris Asmus took the loss in the second game, which was highlighted by another Eskew home run.

Willingham captures pole vault title

Matt Willingham, a recent Central High School graduate who won the Class 4 pole vault state title, finished first in his specialty during Saturday's USA Track and Field Ozark Regional in St. Louis.

Willingham cleared 15 feet Saturday, the same height that he cleared to capture the state championship last month.

Burlison rides to a victory

Bill Burlison of Advance represented Missouri in the cycling events at the National Senior Olympics in Louisville this weekend.

He was scheduled to compete in the 5K competition Saturday and will compete in the 10K ride Tuesday.

Jackson baseball players on academic team

Recent Jackson High School graduates Rex Meyr, Taylor Busch and Luke Crader have been named to the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association academic all-state team for Class 4.

Oran placed two players on the MHSBCA all-state baseball squad for Class 1. Pitcher Chase Seyer made the second team while catcher Caleb Seyer was honorable mention.

Temm, Myers, Fowler win Dalhousie event

The team of Alice Temm, Harriette Myers and Diane Fowler posted a score of 66 to win Saturday's ladies guest day scramble event at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Deanna Estes, Jennifer Coad and Mindy Branstetter were second at 71.

Closest to the pin winners were Myers (No. 5), Emily Matthews (No. 8), Temm (No. 11) and Pat Bray (No. 13).

Burnett captures first at Chip-A-Ways outing

Sissy Burnett finished in first place in the A-flight at the weekly Cape Chip-A-Ways outing Tuesday.

Jeana Koch and Waunita Van Dyke tied for first place in the B-flight.

Margie Kurre and Bev Whink tied for the low putts while Bea Mashek had the play of the day.

Cape's Wehner finished fifth at national event

Cape Girardeau's Michael Wehner finished fifth at the World Series of Poker's $1,500 no-limit hold 'em shootout in Las Vegas recently.

Wehner, a Notre Dame graduate, won $36,855 for his finish.

Schreckenburg wins two horseshoe events

Carolyn Schreckenburg teamed with Bob Burnett to take first place at the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association's event at the Backyard Horseshoe Club on June 16.

Danny Williams and Martin Williams were second. Darrel Vandeven and Keith Morrow were third.

On June 17, Schreckenburg teamed with Perry Seyes for first place at the Backyard Horseshoe Club.

Randy Senciboy and Virgil Schreckenburg took second. Lachelle Cook and John Keller were third.

Robert scores second career hole in one

Scobie Robert of Cape Girardeau used a driver to record a hole in one on the 140-yard No. 6 hole at Kimbeland Country Club recently.

It was the second career hole in one for Robert, who is 83.

Leon Calvin, Howard Kinder and Jim Kellett witnessed the shot.

Murakami wins super pro class final

Cape Girardeau's Mark Murakami took first place in the super pro class at the Sikeston Drag Strip on June 16.

Murakami had a reaction time of .528 seconds, a dial-in time of 6.12 and an elapsed time of 6.122.

Murakami defeated William Wilson of Arcadia, Mo., in the finals.

Tolliver earns victory in golf outing

Kay Tolliver placed first in the 18-hole division at the Women's Golf Association's outing at the Cape Girardeau Country Club on Thursday.

Donna Hand took second.

The team of E.R. Fischer and Joyce Kuntze took first in the twilight scramble Wednesday.
