Wins send Cliff's junior Legion team to 16-6

The Cliff's Rent to Own junior American Legion team is 16-6 after sweeping a pair of games Thursday against Dunklin County.

Cliff's won the opener 11-6 behind two hits apiece by Zach Hudson, Brandon Cooper and Blake Essner. Cliff's had only four hits in the second game but took advantage of 12 runs.

Matt Helrich (3-0) and Tyler Bruce (2-0) combined for the wins.

On Wednesday, Cliff's defeated Jackson in a doubleheader, 10-4 and 14-7.

In the first game, Tyrone Reese (5-0) pitched a complete game. Cooper's grand slam and double led to his six-RBI night. Ty Craft had a pair of singles.

In the 14-7 win, Anthony Wulfers was 3-for-5, Bruce and Jeff Beard were 2-for-4, and David Jackson and Scott Dunaway were 2-for-5. Essner (1-2) pitched the win.

Cliff's hosts an eight-team tournament today through Sunday at Central and Notre Dame.

McKinney takes women's event crown

Vicki McKinney won the Cape Girardeau Country Club's Women's Golf Association event Thursday. The play of the day was "best nine."

Marlena Jones was the meadlist. Among nine-holers, Priscilla Kirby and Nell Coad tied for the win.
