Maguire earns six golds in New Orleans

Morgan Maguire of the Gator Swim Team won six gold medals and was voted the outstanding performance at the recent Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans.

Caitlyn Palmer also won six gold medals as the Gators won 16 golds overall.

Maguire won the 200, 400 and 1,500 freestyle, the 200 and 400 individual medley as well as the 200 butterfly.

Palmer was victorious in the 50, 200 and 400 freestyle, the 100 and 200 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Phoebe Law turned in winning performances in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley. Helen Wojdylo won gold in the 1,500 freestyle.

Silver medals were won by Law (50 backstroke, 100 freestyle), Palmer (100 freestyle), Madeline Siefert (100 and 200 breaststroke) and Wojdylo (200 freestyle, 100 and 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley).

Wojdylo added two bronze medals (400 individual medley, 200 butterfly).

Other top-eight finishes were turned in by Jacob Bening, Joseph Janisse, Amanda Mabry, Cameron Mejean, Noah Mejean, Tysen Miller, Molly Phegley and Matthew Snyder.

Ressel, Cook team for horseshoe victory

Dennis Ressel and Lachelle Cook teamed to win the SEMO Horseshoe Association's nine-team tournament at the Backyard Club.

Mike Massa and Carolyn Schreckenberg placed second, while Randy Senciboy and Virgil Schreckenberg finished third.

The team of Lester Powell and Cook won the 14-team tournament at the Leopold Knights of Columbus.

Jim Burnett and Dawn Morrow grabbed second, while Virgil Schreckenberg and Yvone Schwartz earned third.

The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday at the Scott City Knights of Columbus.

Eftink wins ladies handicap tourney

Mary Jane Eftink shot a 63 to win the ladies handicap tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Terri Parmly carded a 70, while Eileen Owens and Harriette Myers both shot 74s.
