Rookie Bowman tops class at Sikeston

The Sikeston Drag Strip crowned a new champion in the junior dragster class for the first time in a month Saturday when Taylor Bowman of Cape Girardeau halted Brett Castro's four-week winning streak.

Bowman, in his first race of the season, beat Ricky Shelton Jr. of Sikeston in the final.

Bowman posted an elapsed time of 7.67 seconds on a dial-in time of 7.62 seconds. He averaged 80.40 mph and had a reaction time of .500 to the starting tree.

Seyes, Powell win horseshoe tourney

Perry Seyes and Lester Powell placed first Sunday in the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association stop at Backyard Horseshoe Club in Glenallen.

The duo topped a field of 11 teams.

Ron LeGrand and Melissa Turner finished second.

The team of Mike Moss and Mike DeVault placed third.

The association next plays 1 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson.
