Bell City's boys basketball team rebounded from a struggling 1-2 start at the Oran Tournament to defeat Woodland Tournament champion Advance 63-58 on Tuesday at Advance.

The Cubs (2-2) jumped to a 15-6 first-quarter lead and held off a late Hornets charge.

A.J. Henry led four double-digit scorers for Bell City with 18 points. D.D. Gillespie scored 15, Blaine Stewart had 13, and Jeff Liggins added 10 for the Cubs.

Daryl Wade led Advance with 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Jeremy Limbaugh added 18 points for the Hornets (3-1).

Jameson Kuper posted state-qualifying times in winning the 200-meter individual medley and 100 breaststroke, as Notre Dame won a dual meet at Central Municipal Pool.

Kuper's times were the first state qualifying times posted for the Bulldogs, who were competing in their first dual meet.

Also winning for the Bulldogs: the 200 medley relay team, Lance Carroll in the 200 freestyle, Jordan Voss in the 100 freestyle, the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.
