Some major supporters of Cape Girardeau Central athletics have started up an athletics foundation that is intended to serve as a financial supplement to the current Central Booster Club.

According to foundation vice-president Mike Dunaway, the purpose of the foundation is to help with Central's sports programs on both the high school and junior high levels when money is not in the operating budget. Dunaway said it is not intended to take away from what the booster club does, only to serve as a behind-the-scenes way of helping out.

Dunaway said the foundation intends to raise money from its target contributors consisting of both alumni and corporations.

"We've got the blessing of the school board, the superintendent of schools, Central administrators and the booster club," said Dunaway. "We're really excited about this new organization."

Dan Todt is the foundation's president and Bill Cole serves as treasurer. There is a 15-member board.

For more information or to contribute to the foundation, call Todt at 651-6568 or Dunaway at 335-1475.
