CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Despite going winless in the season-opening SIU Tournament, Southeast Missouri State University softball coach Lana Flynn Richmond is not disappointed.

"Not at all," she said. "As the games progressed throughout the tournament, I felt the team stepped it up a level. We played some of the best competition in the region."

The Otahkians, after losing to Evansville 2-0 on Saturday, went 0-2-1 on Sunday.

Southeast completed a game that had been suspended by rain from Saturday by losing to host Southern Illinois 8-0, then lost to Indiana 7-3 before tying Western Illinois 4-4 in a game that was stopped after six innings because of darkness.

Chris Shetley went 3-for-3 against Indiana while Jenny Oermann had two hits.

For the tournament, Southeast committed just two errors.

"That was a bright spot," Richmond said.

The Otahkians will return to action Saturday when they visit Eastern Illinois.
