BRIEFLY: SE'S LEWIS RECEIVES `RISING STAR' AWARD

Southeast Missouri State University freshman baseball player Jon Lewis recently received the Rising Star Award from the St. Louis Amateur Hall of Fame as the top high school baseball player in the metro area in 1996.

Lewis, an outfielder from Herculaneum, was a first-team all-state selection and the Jefferson County Small School MVP. As a senior, he batted .516 with nine home runs and 32 RBI.

This marks the second year in a row an Indian member won the award. Southeast pitcher Justin Buck earned the award the previous year.
