The Poplar Bluff Senior Babe Ruth baseball team defeated Cape Ford & Sons Post 63 Senior Legion in the third-place game of the Fighting Squirrel Baseball Classic on Sunday in Charleston, Mo.

Poplar Bluff posted a 7-5 victory in the contest.

J.C. Chapman took the loss for Cape, which fell to 7-7. Chapman allowed four hits and seven runs -- four earned -- in six innings. He struck out six and walked four.

Cam Grueninger had two hits for Cape, which had seven hits overall. Chase Eubank had a double and three RBIs.

The Charleston Senior Babe Ruth team won the championship, defeating Festus Senior Legion 7-6.

In action Saturday, Lane Henson had two hits and drove in three runs as the Scott County Senior Legion defeated Charleston U16 9-5.

Zach Carlyle also had two hits for Scott County (3-6), while Layne Spies and Tyler Rogers drove in two runs each.

Rogers got the win, pitching four innings and allowing two runs -- both earned -- on just one hit, walking four, striking out two and hitting a batter.

In Friday's action, Scott County started strong, scoring three runs in the first inning, before falling to Elsberry 16-3. Scott County committed nine errors in the game, which led to 11 unearned runs.

Trent Pobst, Logan Henson and Jordan Kinder each had two hits for Scott County.

Henson took the loss on the mound.

Jackson Sr. Legion 11 Blytheville 6

The Jackson Post 158 Senior Legion baseball team improved to 13-1 with a rain-shortened, seven-inning victory over host Blytheville American Legion.

Wayne Thompson went 3 for 3 with a double to lead Jackson's 15-hit attack.

Ryan O'Rear, Kelby Brown and Trent Wills all added two hits. Wills finished with three RBIs.

Cody Heisserer notched the win on the mound. He allowed four hits and struck out seven in six innings.
