PHOENIX -- St. Louis pounded Casey Daigle in his major league debut with five home runs -- two by ex-Diamondback Reggie Sanders -- in 2 2-3 innings and the Cardinals beat Arizona 13-6 on Friday night.

Tony Womack, another former Diamondback, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

Scott Rolen was 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a two-run home run and a two-run single. Albert Pujols and Ray Lankford also homered for the Cardinals.

Chris Carpenter (1-0) got his first victory since July 24, 2002, allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings. Carpenter did not appear in a major league game last season while coming back from shoulder surgery.

Daigle (0-1), a 23-year-old right-hander who pitched for Double-A El Paso last season, allowed eight runs and 10 hits before he was lifted after Sanders' second homer careened off the Nissan sign 445 feet from home plate with two outs in the third.

Pujols hit a solo shot in the first inning. Sanders added a two-run homer and Womack an RBI single in the second, then Lankford, Rolen and Sanders homered in the Cardinals' four-run third.

Rolen's two-run single off reliever Andrew Good put St. Louis up 10-3 in the fourth.

Arizona's Steve Finley, 1-for-13 going into the game, was 2-for-3 with a home run and a sacrifice fly. He also scored twice. Alex Cintron was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a solo homer.

With two outs in the seventh and the Diamondbacks trailing 10-6, Greg Colbrunn tried to score from first on Luis Gonzalez's double to right and was called out on a close play by plate umpire Chris Guccione on Womack's relay throw.

The Diamondbacks briefly took a 3-1 lead in the first on singles by Finley and Roberto Alomar, an RBI double by Gonzalez and Cintron's two-run single.

Hall of Famer Robin Yount will be acting manager for the Diamondbacks Saturday night while Bob Brenly serves a one-game suspension for inappropriate conduct toward an umpire in a spring training game. ... Daigle is engaged to star softball pitcher Jennie Finch. ... Sanders is playing for his seventh team since 1998. It was his 23rd multihomer game. ... Arizona's Richie Sexson was 0-for-4 to drop to 2-for-16 for the season. Both hits were homers.
