Steve Kline, Dave Veres and Jason Isringhausen combined to hold the Orioles hitless with three strikeouts and a walk over the last four innings.

Baltimore starter Calvin Maduro gave up four hits and two walks in five shutout innings for the Orioles.

"I was confident I could drive in the run," Ortega, a native of Cuba, said through an interpreter, Cardinals teammate Eli Marrero. "Yes, I think I've had a good spring but I still have a lot of work to do. I feel like I'm on top of my game now and I'm happy to be here. The big thing is to stay here."
