Cape Girardeau Central's Amber Voerg scored the game-winning goal on an assist from Amanda Hiler at the 68-minute mark as the Lady Tigers edged host Notre Dame 2-1 Tuesday in girls high school soccer action.

Central improved to 8-0-1 on the season while the Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-5-1.

Notre Dame's Cyndi Cox scored the game's first goal 56 minutes into the game on an assist from Jill Edwards.

About three minutes later, Central tied it up on a goal by Tricia Klipfel. Voerg assisted on the play.

"We played very well today," Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley said. "Central has got a very good team. We were very dangerous today. I think it was the first time we've ever held a lead against Central."

"It was really nice competition," Central coach Tom Doyle said. "Both teams had scoring opportunities and it was a good defensive battle."

In the junior varsity game, Central downed Notre Dame 1-0. Cameron Bennett scored an unassisted goal at the 58-minute mark. Jessica McDonald recorded the shutout, her fifth of the season.

Perryville 2, Jackson 0

PERRYVILLE -- Cindy Rhyne and Amanda Schumer each scored first-half goals in Perryville's win over Jackson. Shannon Dreyer added an assist.

Jennifer Blevins earned the shutout as Perryville improved to 5-2-1.

BASEBALL

Hayti 2, Oran 0 (9 inn.)

ORAN -- Hayti's Aaron Gurley and Oran's Dustin Glastetter hooked up in a dandy pitcher's duel that wasn't decided until Glastetter came out of the game.

After throwing eight shutout innings, Glastetter was replaced by Dustin Dannenmueller, who allowed three hits and two runs in the top of the ninth inning.

Glastetter allowed four hits while striking out nine and walking two.

Gurley was even more impressive as he threw all nine innings, allowing just three hits while fanning 17 and walking two.

Oran fell to 5-2.

Leopold 6, Bloomfield 5

LEOPOLD -- Donnie Landewee picked up his second win of the year as Leopold edged Bloomfield.

Landewee pitched four innings and allowed just one run while striking out four.

Scott Vangennip and Jason VanDeven each pitched in relief to hold off Bloomfield.

Leopold, which had 13 hits, got three from Lee Vandermierden and two apiece from VanDeven, Matt Nanney, Ashton James and Garan Engelen.

SOFTBALL

Chaffee 24, Richland 0

CHAFFEE -- The Lady Red Devils improved to 5-0 on the season with a blowout that was called after 2 1/2 innings.

Amy Burnett picked up the win in her first outing of the season, tossing three innings of perfect ball. She fanned three.

Burnett also shined at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in, five stolen bases and a sacrifice. Jill Little hit a three-run homer and also tripled in going 2-for-4 for Chaffee.

Leopold 14, Bloomfield 4

LEOPOLD -- In five innings, Jodi VanGennip walked 13 batters but held Bloomfield to no hits as Leopold prevailed. She also struck out four.

Leopold moved to 2-2. Stephanie Horrell had a home run and three RBIs and Jennifer Elfrink was 2-for-3 with a triple.

GOLF

Dexter 152, Jackson 158

DEXTER -- Jackson shot a season low but lost to Dexter at Hidden Trails Country Club. The Indians fell to 5-2.

Jackson's Gabe Estes fired a 2-over-par 38 to tie Dexter's Matt and Kyle Christian for medalist honors.

Also for Jackson, Nathan Brown and Tommy Henderson both shot a 39 and Chris Pike shot a 42.

St. Vincent 165, Herculaneum 170

HERCULANEUM -- St. Vincent gained its sixth win in seven tries in a five-stroke win at the per-36 Joachim Country Club.

Craig Schumer shot a 40 to lead St. Vincent, followed by Jon Paulus with 41 and Jon Ponder and Mark Gotto with 42.

St. Vincent's JV stayed undefeated at 6-0 with a 170-191 win.

TRACK & FIELD

Central sweeps A-J meet

ANNA, Ill. -- With 131 points, Cape Central's boys topped Massac Co. (99), Cairo (80) and Anna-Jonesboro (43) in the Anna-Jonesboro Invitational.

In the girls meet, Central, with 186 points, easily beat Anna-Jonesboro, Vienna, (45), Massac Co. (41) and Cairo (28).

A highlight for Central was Steve Criddle's time of 22.5 seconds in the 200.

Results are in `Scoreboard' on 2B.

BOYS TENNIS

Cape Central 5, Dexter 4

DEXTER -- Cape Central got a narrow win over improved Dexter as the Tigers raised their record to 5-1.

Central's JV won 7-3 and moved to 6-0.
