ST. LOUIS -- Cape Girardeau Central High's girls swimming team placed second Friday in a four-team meet hosted by Rockwood Summit. Summit won the meet with 604 points, followed by Central with 523.5, Eureka with 483 and Ursuline Academy with 453.5. Central had a pair of double individual winners as Mary Beth Owen won the 200 individual medley (2:15.99) and 100 freestyle (55.84) and Grace Freeman captured the 50 freestyle (26.62) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.56)...

ST. LOUIS -- Cape Girardeau Central High's girls swimming team placed second Friday in a four-team meet hosted by Rockwood Summit.

Summit won the meet with 604 points, followed by Central with 523.5, Eureka with 483 and Ursuline Academy with 453.5.

Central had a pair of double individual winners as Mary Beth Owen won the 200 individual medley (2:15.99) and 100 freestyle (55.84) and Grace Freeman captured the 50 freestyle (26.62) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.56).

Jean Maguire won the 100 fly (1:05.86) while the team of Owen, Maguire, Freeman and Freeze was first in both the medley relay (2:00.21) and 400 freestyle relay (3:53.41).

Finishing second were Maguire in the 100 backstroke and Julia Lufcy in diving while Freeze was third in both the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle and Marci Kester placed third in the 100 breaststroke.

Also for Central, Allison Johnson was fifth in the 500 freestyle.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jackson 10, Hillsboro 0

HILLSBORO -- Jackson made short work of host Hillsboro Friday, ending the game at the end of the first half by virtue of a 10-goal lead.

Jennifer Horst led the Lady Indians (4-1) with four goals while Amanda Beussink scored twice. Adding one goal apiece were Jessica Shultz, Dana Eakins, Julianne Hall and Carrie Myer.

Shultz and Eakins both had two assists while Sarah Schlick added one.

Goalie Laura Beck recorded the shutout.

"The girls played well, I just felt bad for the other team," said Jackson coach Bonnie Knowlan.
