Central wins lone home game

The Central club lacrosse team attacked early and often in blitzing Wentzville at Southeast Missouri State's intramural field Friday night.

Playing its only home match of the year, Central dominated the first quarter, and senior midfielder Devon Edmonds provided enough late offense to ease Central to a 7-3 win.

Central improved to 3-1 in the Missouri ScholasticLacrosseAssociation.

"We've been rolling so far, and we just want to continue rolling," Central senior captain Will Browne said.

Central, a club team formed in 2003 by students and affiliated with school only in name, has been doing most of its rolling while traveling to St. Louis. Each member of the team pays for equipment, travel costs and a club fees.

After defensive penalties left Central short-handed by two players allowed Wentzville to close to 3-2 in the third quarter, Central resumed to roll, adding two late goals in the period.

Junior attacker Chase Tobin assisted on both Central goals in the quarter, setting up Bahn for his second and the first of Edmonds' three goals.

"Will Browne is a captain along with Chase Tobin and John Gile and those guys have been playing really well and have done a great job of leading," Central coach Andy Mudd said.

The final quarter belonged to Edmonds, who added a second goal early in the period before delivering the offensive play of the game for the final tally.

Following a Wentzville penalty turned the ball over to Central, Edmonds took off from the defensive zone and outran the first line of Wentzville's defense before squeezing through two defenseman with a spin move and launching a shot as soon as he finished the spin that sailed into the bottom left corner of the net.

"Devon is fast," Mudd said. "Once he takes off, he is so fast."
