KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- From Kansas City's point of view, the best thing about a 5-0 start is the fact the Chiefs still have not had a great game from their quarterback.

Trent Green threw two touchdown passes in Sunday's 24-23 victory over Denver, a game that will be remembered only for Dante Hall's go-ahead touchdown on a 93-yard punt return.

But he also misfired on several passes that should have been intercepted. He finished 15 of 28 for 128 yards and one interception. He was clearly outplayed by Denver's Jake Plummer, who was 20-of-38 for 221 yards and one TD but no interceptions.

Green described his play as "up and down."

"We had some good series," he said. "But that's a good team over there (Denver). Everything's not going to go our way every series. I thought it was big that we were able to come out and get that touchdown right away in the second half after they got the score."

The Broncos seized a 20-10 lead early in the second half when Clinton Portis got loose on a 65-yard TD run. But the Chiefs came right back on a 5-play, 77-yard run capped by Johnnie Morten's 28-yard touchdown catch.

"We still have room for improvement. That's the great thing" about the 5-0 start, Green said. "Dante continues to shine, and offensively at times we move the ball well and other times we struggle."

Priest Holmes had 97 yards on 17 carries.

"I know offensively we're not satisfied by any means," Green said. "I think this is four straight games where we've had a kick return or a punt return for a touchdown. But we're not completely satisfied where we are as an offense. Those things will continue to come and it's better to be winning and striving to improve than being in the loss column and struggling to figure out what we have to do better."

Hall's backbreaking, team-record 93-yard punt return came just a few minutes after he'd gone 41 yards with a kickoff return.

On that play, he hit his head hard as he was tackled. He stayed down a few minutes and was woozy.

"I went to jump up and I was kind of cuckoo," he said. "My head was spinning. I got an instant headache so I had to stay there and get my composure."

After making several tacklers miss on the initial part of his return, Hall cut back left and picked up a convoy down the sideline. He was asked if anyone threw any key blocks.

"I tell you what, there were a lot of guys in that locker room claiming a great block," he said with a laugh. "I can't wait to see the (tape) and see who was actually telling the truth."

Most of the day, the Broncos had kept him bottled up.

"I don't know what to say about him except that he is a hell of a player," said Denver linebacker Al Wilson. "When you think you have him down, you have to bring it even more."
