COLUMBIA -- Cape Girardeau Central High's girls tennis team got its season started here over the weekend by going 1-2 in dual matches during the Great Eight Tournament.

Central finished in sixth place. Defending state champion St. Joseph's Academy won the title.

The Lady Tigers lost to Rock Bridge and Jefferson City, both by 4-3 scores, and defeated Hickman 6-1.

Winners against Rock Bridge were Laura Dombrowski in singles and the doubles teams of Ellie Bennett/Andrea Benton and Laura Sheets/Summer Chaudhari.

Winners against Jefferson City were Benton in singles and the doubles teams of Laura Wagoner/Dombrowski and Sheets/Chaudhari.

Central's victors against Hickman were Benton, Wagoner and Dombrowski in singles, along with the doubles squads of Bennett/Benton, Wagoner/Dombrowski and Sheets/Chaudhari.
