There looks to be a "catfight" shaping up for a spot in the 3A Final Four when the Fredericktown Lady Cats face the Eureka Lady Wildcats in a quarterfinal matchup tonight in the Farmington Civic Center at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Black Cats (19-5) will be hoping history repeats itself because the last time Fredericktown made it this far in the state playoffs (1990), the Lady Cats also reached the Final Four.

Fredericktown reached the quarterfinals by topping an outstanding individual performance by Kennett's Brandi Jackson in its sectional contest Wednesday in Poplar Bluff. Jackson scored 49 points, but the Lady Cats prevailed 77-64.

Fredericktown will have to deal with a more balanced Eureka team tonight.

Eureka (23-5) has three players averaging over 12 points a game. Molly Quinn leads the Lady Wildcats, averaging 15 points a game. Jennifer Freund (13 ppg) and Lindsey Foster (12 ppg) also provide offense for Eureka. Freund is also the Eureka's top rebounder with nine boards a game.

The Lady Cats counter with their own three-headed attack. Senior center Lindsey Merrill (6-2) averages 20 points and 12 rebounds per contest. Kristen Tripp adds 16 points and Christy Unnerstall, although doing the brunt of the ball-handling, still averages almost nine points a game.
