Hannah Clark hit a home run to lead third-seeded Advance to a 9-1 victory over top-seeded Woodland in the championship game of the Stoddard County Activities Association (SCAA) softball tournament Tuesday in Puxico, Mo.

Clark also pitched a complete game to claim the win in the circle for Advance, which improved to 9-5. Clark gave up one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

"This is one of those seasons where early on we set this as a goal," Advance coach James Hamlin said about winning the championship. "We had some early struggles, but believed in ourselves. We knew today was going to be a battle and we talked about getting on top early."

The Hornets were able to do that, scoring in four of the first five innings. A five-run fifth inning increased the lead to 9-0.

"It's definitely not what we wanted or what we should have achieved," Woodland coach Andrea Arnold said. "We came out here with confidence and quickly lost it. We put our heads down and just didn't play ball."

Kendra Sokolowski had a triple and Krystal James had a double for the Hornets, who banged out 13 hits. Sokolowski, Madison Brown and Sydney Bailey all finished with two hits.

Mara Grindstaff had a double to pace Woodland (10-5). Kathlyn Cooper took the loss in the circle.

"I'm proud of our girls' effort and focus," Hamlin said. "This is our first step and we've got one more goal and it starts Monday."

Both teams will start the inaugural spring softball district tournament Monday. Advance plays in the District 5 at Scott City with Charleston and Scott County Central, while Woodland travels to Oak Ridge to play in District 6 with Leopold and Meadow Heights.

Greenville 4, Leopold 2

Greenville's Lawren Luke hit a double as the Bears picked up their first win of the season at home.

Emily Duncan got the win in the circle. She pitched a complete game and had 10 strikeouts and no walks for Greenville (1-5).

Lexi Vandeven took the loss on the mound. She also threw a complete game with four strikeouts and two walks.

Denai Arnzen and Ashlyn Bucher added a double each for Leopold (8-2).

Hailey Clayton belted a triple as the Rams routed the Bobcats at home.

Becky Burger was the winning pitcher. She threw a complete game and gave up two hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks for Scott City (11-4).

Ciara Coomer took the loss in the circle. She went the distance and allowed three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and four walks for Delta.

Dawson Mayo had two hits, including a double, but the fourth-seeded Hornets fell to the top-seeded Mules in a semifinal of the SCAA tournament.

Mayo took the loss on the mound. He gave up five earned runs over five innings with four strikeouts and two walks.

Austin Miller added a double for Advance (8-8). The Hornets will host sixth-seeded Puxico for third place today at 4:30 p.m.

Devin Trammell was the winning pitcher for Bernie (11-3). He threw a complete game and gave up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Mules will host second-seeded Bloomfield for the tournament title today.

Landon Mills belted a home run as the Indians prevailed on the road.

Michael Houchin pitched six innings for the win. He struck out six and walked four. Avery Whiteside got the save in the top of the seventh inning, striking out two batters for Jackson (6-12).

Jason Mattison took the loss for Dexter (4-6).

McDaniel, Trynt Tompkins and Jacob Withrow each had a double for Greenville (12-5).

Zach Elfrink pitched six innings for Leopold (3-7) and took the loss. He allowed four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Matt Chism allowed just three hits in pitching a complete game for the Tigers (6-11), but took the loss. He gave up three earned runs, struck out nine and walked four.

Nathan Bolin, Jake LeGrand and Ryan Below all had two hits for Oak Ridge (6-2).

David Camarillo took the loss for St. Vincent. He gave up eight hits over six innings with six strikeouts and one walk.

Noah Niswonger had a double for St. Vincent (4-10).

Pitcher Drew Short sustained the loss for Scott City (3-10). He threw five innings and struck out two.

Seth Ressel threw two innings for the win. He allowed five hits and struck out four.

Ressel had three hits and two RBIs at the plate for Oran (9-3). Hunter Schlosser had four hits and three RBIs, while Ben Heuring had two hits and three RBIs.

Ben Heuring and Hunter Schlosser each had three RBIs for Oran (9-3).

Paris Johnson was the losing pitcher. He threw two innings and gave up nine earned runs on seven hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Chase Steffens had three hits, including a double, for Saxony Lutheran (6-5).

The Crusaders won a pair of five-inning games against Eagle Ridge on Monday. Saxony won 11-0 and 14-0.
