New Salem needed overtime, but it was worth the wait.

The Eagles defeated Rivers of Life 60-55 to capture the Missouri Christian Schools Athletic Association's 1A state title in boys basketball Saturday.

Josh Davault hit a jumper with 10.8 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

The Eagles outscored Rivers of Life 7-2 in overtime.

Davault, who was selected to the all-state first team, had 35 points and 18 rebounds in the win.

Paulie Barber had 14 rebounds and eight points, while John Bucholtz, earned all-state second team honors, added eight points.

The Eagles ended their season with a 10-11 record.

The school retired the numbers of former players Paul Hale (No. 25) and Gary Owens (No. 21) during a ceremony at halftime.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Vincent 54, Valle Catholic 21

Storm French just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds in the Indians' win.

Courtney Heberlie added 11 points and Chelsie Boxdorfer chipped in 10 points for St. Vincent (17-5).

The Indians return to action Wednesday when they travel to Scott City.
