Notre Dame softball coach Jeff Graviett warned his all-state outfielder to remain alert at third base.

Brianne Sanders, who had reached with a one-out single, scored the winning run on a passed ball to lift the Bulldogs to the title at Saturday's Jackson Invitational.

Sanders raced home without a play for the 3-2 win over Festus.

"Didn't have a chance," Graviett said about the catcher's chance to corral the pitch that got away.

Sanders singled and went to second on a single by Summer Burger. Sanders moved to third on a fly out and scored on the errant pitch.

Katie Bond had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning before Festus struck for two runs, including a homer by pitcher Mollie Carter.

The Bulldogs went 4-0 on Saturday to capture the title. It capped an eight-game week, and the Bulldogs won all eight to improve to 17-0 this season.

Perryville tournament

The host Pirates fell to Ste. Genevieve 25-23, 25-23 in the gold bracket championship.

Central defeated Saxony Lutheran 26-24, 25-22 to win the silver bracket title.

The Tigers' Chelsey Brown had eight kills and seven digs, while Chelsea Pannier had six kills and two digs in the championship match.

Megan Myers had 18 assists, while Molly Nelms added seven digs in the win.

The Tigers were 2-2 in pool play and defeated Arcadia Valley in the silver bracket semifinals.

Myers recorded 72 assists in the tournament for the Tigers. Brown added 30 kills and 35 digs, while Pannier had 32 kills.

COMO Invitational

Central finished 10th out of 20 teams at the meet in Columbia, Mo.

The Tigers scored 94 points, while Parkway Central won the meet with 387 points.

Caleb Coots and Jordan Gramling tied for third in the 200 freestyle.

Coots had a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle and Gramling came in fourth in the 100 freestyle.

The Bulldogs lost at home on a late goal.

"We just couldn't get the ball in the net," Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn said. "We had chances, we just couldn't score."

The Bulldogs fell to 5-4 with the loss.
