NEW ORLEANS -- Southeast Missouri State University's golf team fell just short of winning the Bob Brown Invitational, but Indian senior Woody Hill claimed the individual title.

The Indians, leading by one stroke after Monday's opening round, fell victim to a strong performance from host New Orleans Tuesday after the Privateers shot 1-over par to claim the title by a stroke over the Indians.

New Orleans finished with a score of 585 in the 14-team tournament. Southeast had 586 and Missouri-Kansas City was a distant third at 598.

Hill, who was fourth after the first day, used a 2-under 70 second round to capture the championship. He finished the tournament at 3-under 141 to edge Tulane's Chris Wheeler by one stroke.

Also for Southeast, Jimmy Blose and Brian Sheehan tied for 14th at 4-over 148; Kent Phillips tied for 18th at 5-over 149; and Matt Hillis tied for 52nd at 13-over 157.

Southeast will be back in action Sunday and Monday when it hosts the annual Morton B. Harris Intercollegiate at Kimberland Country Club in Jackson.
