Southeast Missouri State University's spring football game tonight will feature a chess match between the program's new defensive and offensive coordinators.

Offensive coordinator Rob Likens will be part of the staff for the White team, which will feature returning quarterback Andrew Goodenough.

Defensive coordinator Damon Bradford is on the staff for the Red team, which will have last year's leading tackler, linebacker O.J. Turner, in the lineup.

Newcomer Mike Haley, a junior college transfer, will be the quarterback for the Red team, with All-America tight end Ray Goodson as one of his targets.

The game begins at 6 p.m. at Houck Stadium. Admission is free of charge.

Southeast finished 5-7 overall last year and was tied for third in the Ohio Valley Conference at 5-3.

Softball on the road

Southeast's softball team will try to solidify its hold on sixth place in the OVC and also move up the standings as the Otahkians (11-27, 6-7) play a three-game weekend series at Morehead State (11-27, 4-13).

There will be a noon doubleheader today and a noon single game Sunday.

The Otahkians are just one game on the loss side behind third-place Tennessee Tech (10-6) as well as fourth-place Jacksonville State and Tennessee-Martin, who are both 8-6. Eastern Kentucky leads the league at 14-2, followed by Samford at 11-5.

Morehead State is ninth out of 10 teams. The top six finishers qualify for the OVC tournament.

Track at Drake Relays

Kaci Pilcher, LaQuita Andrews, Brooke Woodruff and Lindsey Zeiler combined to finish fourth in the distance medley relay in 11:39.26 on Friday for Southeast's only top-eight performance during the first two days of the Drake Relays.

Heather Jenkins was ninth in the discus (154-5) and 12th in the shot put (48-1 1/4); Heather West was 10th in the triple jump (37-1 1/4); and Alonzo Nelson placed ninth in the 400 hurdles (52.72).

The meet concludes today.
