BOYS BASKETBALL Farmington tournament

Central picked up its first win of the season thanks to a big second half in a 78-64 win over Salem in the consolation championship of the Farmington Tournament.

The Tigers (1-2) survived a sluggish second quarter -- Salem outscored Central 18-9 in the period -- and used a balanced scoring attack to knock off the Class 4 quarterfinalist from a year ago.

David Deisher led the Tigers with 21 points, as Central had five players score in double figures. Darnell Wilks added 15 points, Jared Thomas and Garrett Ozbun had 11 apiece and Jeremy Kimball had 10.

Central outscored Salem 46-25 in the second half to secure the win. The Tigers also had just nine turnovers after turning the ball over more than 20 times their first two games playing without starting point guard Jajuan Bell.

"The difference today was we took care of the ball," Central coach Derek McCord said.

* Jackson lost 49-35 to Doniphan in the championship game. Details were not available at press time.
