JACKSON -- Jessica Sander lined a two-out, seventh-inning single into the left-center field gap, scoring Lindsey Meyr and giving Jackson a dramatic 6-5 victory over Cape Central Wednesday afternoon at Jackson City Park in high school softball action.

Jackson (18-6) has beaten Cape Central (18-6) in both meetings between the area's top two teams this season.

They could run into each other again on Monday in the final of the Class 4A District 1 Softball Tournament. Jackson is the top seed while Central is seeded second.

"First of all to come back from the way we played the day before (Perryville beat Jackson 10-1 Tuesday) was tremendous," Jackson coach Becky Riney said. "And it clinched the SEMO conference title. So it was a big game for us."

Central led Wednesday's game 5-1 after four innings behind Kathy Michel, but Jackson rallied to tie the game in the fifth, on a pinch-hit single from Heidi Jansen.

Beth Becker (10-4) was the winner for Jackson. Sander, Palmer, Megan Kuntze and Emily Sander had two hits apiece for the Lady Indians. Kuntze stole three bases.

Amanda Bollinger had four assists behind the plate for Jackson.

Michelle Lunsford, Courtney Haman, Erica McDonald and Crissi Matthews had two hits each for the Lady Tigers. McDonald knocked in three runs.

Jackson won the JV game 7-4. Jessica Moyers had two hits for Jackson, including a home run.

Notre Dame 9, Ste. Genevieve 2

STE. GENEVIEVE -- Jill Huber produced on the mound and at the plate in Notre Dame's victory at Ste. Genevieve Wednesday.

Huber pitched seven innings for the victory, allowing three hits and two walks. She struck out three. Huber also had a pair of hits and two runs batted in, helping the Lady Bulldogs improve to 9-10.

Ste. Genevieve led 1-0 after two innings, but Randi Senciboy knocked in a pair of runs in the third, giving Notre Dame the lead for good.

Senciboy finished the game with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Notre Dame's junior varsity also won, 14-11, to wrap up its season with a 6-5 record.

Crystal City 10, St. Vincent 9

CRYSTAL CITY -- St. Vincent had its hoped stopped at home plate when the potential tying run was thwarted on a steal to end the game.

St. Vincent (4-13) rallied from an 8-3 deficit with six runs in the top of the fifth inning, but saw Crystal City nudge ahead 10-9 with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Stephanie Brown suffered the loss, allowing seven hits in 4 2-3 innings. She walked seven and struck out no one.

Amanda Brown had three of the Squaws 10 hits and Kelly Brickhaus had two hits, including a double and a triple.

Tennis

Cape Central 9, Chaffee 0

Cape Central improved to 10-0 in dual meets with a victory over Chaffee.

The Lady Tigers did not allow Chaffee to win more than two games in any set and posted six shutouts.
