Chaffee's boys' basketball team, in search of its first win of the season, put up a strong effort Friday night.

But Kelly was able to deny the Red Devils as the visiting Hawks posted a 63-54 victory.

Kelly evened its record at 6-6 and Chaffee fell to 0-8.

Chris Glastetter scored 15 points for Kelly. Lance Scheffer and Chris Romas both added 13.

Sam Burnett had a game-high 21 points for Chaffee. James Reischman scored 13.

The Red Devils trailed just 30-26 at halftime and were still down by only four, 39-35, after three quarters. Kelly outscored Chaffee 24-19 in the final period.

"We played pretty good. It was close the whole game," Chaffee coach David Mirly said.

Charleston 84, Scott Co. Central 60

Charleston kept rolling as the Bluejays eased past host Scott County Central.

Ashton Farmer scored 16 points for the Bluejays (14-3). Also in double figures were Joshua Strayhorn with 15, Kewain Gant with 12 and Marcus Biles with 11.

The Braves (4-9) got 12 points from Chris Pullen.

St. Pius 62, St. Vincent 57

St. Vincent was cold out of halftime and suffered a road loss.

The Indians (6-5, 1-1 Jefferson County Conference) played to a 34-34 haltime tie. But St. Vincent could only manage six points in the third quarter, and St. Pius iced the game from the free-throw line down the stretch.

Sophomore Alex Armbruster led the Indians with 27 points. Kyle Hurtgen hit five 3-pointers for St. Pius and finished with a team-high 23 points.

Oran 78, Holcomb 35

Nathan Seyer scored 23 points to spark Oran to an easy home victory.

The Eagles (10-4), who led 43-15 at halftime, also got 16 points from Ryan Bouge as he hit four 3-pointers. Ten Oran players scored.

Other events

Saxony Lutheran's junior varsity defeated host East Prairie's freshmen 49-38 for its 10th straight victory. Lauren Lueders led Saxony Lutheran (14-3) with 15 points. Casey Petzoldt added 13 and Tim Lorenz had 10.

St. Vincent of Cape Girardeau defeated Perryville Immanuel Lutheran 38-36 in three overtimes to win the Notre Dame Junior High Invitational boys basketball title. In other finals, Cape Girardeau St. Mary defeated Jackson Immaculate Conception 46-39 for third, Kelso St. Augustine beat Kelso C-7 62-49 for fifth, and Perryville St. Vincent beat Oran Guardian Angel 38-36 for consolation.

The all-tournament team members were Jordan Buchheit of Immaculate Conception, Abraham Dirnberger and Jack Wedemeier of St. Mary, Jamie Pinkston of Kelso C-7, Chad Friend of St. Augustine, Jay Simmons of Scott City St. Joseph, Kory Mueller and Peter Winningham of Immanuel Lutheran, and Matt Kiblinger and Blake Slattery of Cape Girardeau St. Vincent.
