All of the area high school events reported Monday to the Southeast Missourian.

It took Kelly eight innings, but the Hawks defeated three-time defending Illinois Class 1A state champion Cobden 4-3 on Monday in high school softball action in Benton, Mo.

Kristen Powell picked up the win for the Hawks, pitching all eight innings and allowing no earned runs.

Jade Rampley and Emily Grojean each went 2 for 3 in the win as the Hawks banged out seven hits.

Kelly scored single runs in the second and third innings for a 2-0 lead, but Cobden pushed across three runs in the sixth for a 3-2 lead. The Hawks forced extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hawks improved to 8-2 with the win.

Destiny Whitney had a two-run double and two hits as the Tigers won at home.

Brooke Baugher added a double for Central (5-6).

Kadie Orenstein pitched all seven innings for the win. She struck out four, walked one and allowed six hits.

Montana Estes took the loss as the Red Devils (2-3) fell at home.

Estes pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs.

Estes and Adrienne Eichhorn each connected for a single in the loss.

The Bulldogs improved to 10-0 on the season with a road win.

Katie Bond picked up the win, throwing six innings and striking out three.

Savanna Ayers went 3 for 4 with a double, while Brianne Sanders went 2 for 3 with a double.

Alexis Spriggs connected for two doubles in a home win for the Rams (7-2).

Macy Hall also doubled and Jenna Cummins went 2 for 3.

Becky Burger pitched seven innings, striking out four and walking two.

Kelsey James went 3 for 4 for the Crusaders. Kayla Petzoldt and Logan Hunt each added two hits.

Sydney Rapp took the loss, allowing seven hits in seven innings.

The Crusaders fell to 0-11 on the season.

Lesta Newberry had four kills and three blocks in a home win for Zalma (10-1).

Alisha Hendrix had two aces and Angela Dickinson had a team-high six kills. Whitney Walker added four kills and Emily Merick had three.

Leopold 25 25 Bernie 20 13

Leopold improved to 9-2 with a sweep at home.

Abby Landewee posted six kills and two aces, while Mackenzie Beel had five aces. Sydney Eeftink finished with 18 assists, two aces and three digs.

JV -- Leopold won 3-0.

Saxony Lutheran 25 25 Marquand 11 8

The Crusaders won in two games on the road to improve to 5-3-2.

Kirsti Pohlman had five aces and six assists, while Lacey Hemman had seven assists in the win. Lauren Hecht and Courtney Bergman each had four kills, while Jordan Hoff finished with 10 digs.
