The Cape Girardeau Central High girls soccer team remained undefeated on the season Thursday as the Lady Tigers routed Poplar Bluff 4-0.
Freshman Amber Voerg scored two goals as the Lady Tigers improved to 6-0-1. Amanda Hiler scored 15 seconds into the game while Lorie Bittle scored the last goal. Kim Aslinger picked up an assist.
Goalie Amy Harris earned the shutout, her six in seven tries.
Central's JV won 1-0. Allison Eaton scored on a pass from Jennifer Daume.
Pacific 2, Notre Dame 1
PACIFIC -- Notre Dame fell to the host squad Thursday in the championship game of the Pacific Tournament.
Jessica Lawrence scored the Lady Bulldogs' only goal.
The Lady Bulldogs, now 3-4-1, had three players named to the all-tourney team: Michelle Hency, Jill Edwards and Jayme Frank.
"It was a good tournament for us and a good championship game," said Notre Dame coach Jeff Worley. "Both teams were evenly matched."
BASEBALL
Chaffee 9, Scott Central 0
MORLEY -- Jason Harrell went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs as Chaffee dominated Scott County Central on Thursday.
Leading 4-0 after four innings, Chaffee (2-3) put the game away with a five-run seventh.
Phillip Blevins earned the win. He went all seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven.
Kelly 14, Charleston 4
BENTON -- Kelly improved to 4-1 with its six-inning win over Charleston on Thursday.
Jason Glastetter earned the win. In four innings, he allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out eight.
For Kelly (4-1), which totaled 11 hits, Brad Kolwyck went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and Glastetter was 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Ben Klipfel had two hits.
Kelly will play in a three-team, round-robin tournament in Anna, Ill., on Saturday.
Perryville 8, Hillsboro 3
PERRYVILLE -- The Pirates scored five runs in the second inning Thursday to take a 6-1 lead and roll to a Jefferson County Conference victory.
Perryville improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference by out-hitting Hillsboro 12-6. Joel Heuring went 3-for-3 with a triple and teammate Ben Kohm went 3-for-4. Nick Adams and Josh Moll also added two hits.
"I was happy with the way the guys came out and hit the ball," said Perryville coach Dennis Glueck, "especially considering the cold weather."
Josh Moll pitched all seven innings, striking out seven, for the complete-game victory.
Central plagued by rain
SOUTH HAVEN, Miss. -- Rain hampered Cape Central's start Thursday in the 16-team Chamber Classic Tournament being played here.
Central was scheduled to play Hernando, Miss., at 4 p.m. Thursday but that game was rained out. The Tigers were also slated to face New Hope, Miss., at 7 p.m. but that contest got started well after 9, so action was still taking place at press time.
SOFTBALL
Chaffee 28, Scott Central 4
MORLEY -- Jill Little had four hits, including two doubles and a home run, and five RBIs as Chaffee demolished Scott County Central on Thursday.
Chaffee (5-0) totaled 23 hits in the five-inning game.
"It was a big day offensively," Chaffee coach Mark Devenport said in one of the year's biggest understatements.
Brandi Foulk had four hits, Jennifer Siebert had three and Casey Graviett, Jodi Pfefferkorn and Amy Burnett each had two. Burnett (4-0) earned the win.
