Sparked by freshman Jillian Mills' 3-pointer in the second quarter Saturday, Meadow Heights rallied from a 20-6 deficit in the second period to avenge a loss to Woodland earlier this season.

Meadow Heights knocked off Woodland 57-39 in the third-place game Saturday at the Delta New Year's Tournament.

The sixth-seeded Panthers (5-7) outscored fifth-seeded Woodland 22-9 in the third period to erase a three-point halftime deficit and take control.

"The freshmen carried us in the first half," Meadow Heights coach Mitch Nanney said. "The biggest thing at halftime we talked about was the older players stepping up in the second half, and they did. We tightened up on defense.

"Our offense is designed around trying to get to the basket and getting to the free-throw line."

Meadow Heights shot 36 free throws, making 25.

Senior Amanda Hendrickson led the Panthers with 14 points. Junior Chelsey Kight added 10 and Mills had nine.

Sophomore Taylor Steckman scored 17 points to lead Woodland. She hit two treys and fired in a nice no-look pass to Lauren Johnson along the baseline for a basket during the third period.

Chaffee rallied past Oran in the fourth period as Amber Kirk poured in 18 points in the quarter, including four 3-pointers, for the 64-61 win in the consolation final.

Kirk finished with 24 points, while Whitney Schlosser added 21 for the Red Devils.

Freshman Cheyenne King led Oran with 21 points, including 14 in the second half.
